Anger King / Ask a Pro
Led a video unit of 8 people — producers and reporters — within an in-house new business incubation team. Started with the solutions journalism-based "Anger King" series, then pivoted to "Ask a Pro," which leveraged DC Inside community memes.
Challenge
News video rarely went beyond reading a text article aloud. The gap between what YouTube users actually wanted and what media was delivering was enormous. The challenge was to build a format that both preserved journalistic value and was actually consumed on the platform.
Approach
1
Analyzed the YouTube content market; held direct meetings with Google and YouTube teams for consulting2
Planned and produced the "Anger King" series format; led a team of 2 reporters and 6 video interns3
Solutions journalism-based 3-part video structure: problem discovery (anger) → solution-seeking → reporting follow-through4
Pivoted after 6 months: partnered with DC Inside to launch community meme-based "Ask a Pro" series5
